Marbury, or “Nathie” as she was affectionately known was a long time supporter of the NAD and served as an appointed board member under two presidents, Dr. Roz Rosen () and Dr. Bobbie Beth Scoggins (). Nathie was born in Grenada, Mississippi in but grew up in Pennsylvania.Born in 1944, Dr. Marbury etched her name in the annals of academia as the world's first Deaf BIPOC ASL textbook author.
Dr. Nathie Marbury, age 69, passed away on April 15, As a longtime member of National Black Deaf Advocates, we mourn the loss of one of our own. Dr. Marbury was an alumnus of Gallaudet University, the University of California at Northridge, and Lamar University.
